Fashion Forward - Exploring the Influence of TV Shows on Fashion
May 12, 2024
In today's society, television shows do more than just entertain us; they also influence our personal style. From costumes to trendsetting ensembles, TV characters have long been fashion inspirations, influencing how we dress and express ourselves. Let's take a closer look at how TV series have influenced fashion trends, from the glitz of "Gossip Girl" to the nostalgic feel of "Stranger Things."
Gossip Girl - Known as one of the most influential fashion shows, "Gossip Girl" attracted audiences with its high-society drama and even higher-end layout. From Blair Waldorf's preppy style to Serena van der Woodsen's effortlessly gorgeous outfits, the occasion embodied Upper East Side grace. With guest appearances by designers such as Vera Wang and Marc Jacobs, "Gossip Girl" raised the bar for aspirational style, encouraging viewers to appreciate expensive labels and sophisticated designs.
Sex and the City - "Sex and the City" revolutionized television fashion with its daring approach to style. Carrie Bradshaw's varied wardrobe, created by famed costume designer Patricia Field, became a symbol for urban sophistication and daring stylistic choices. From Manolo Blahnik stilettos to statement-making accessories, the show embraced uniqueness and self-expression, bringing in a new era of fashion-forward storytelling on television.
Stranger Things - While "Stranger Things" is known for its nostalgic nods to the 1980s, it has also sparked a resurgence of retro-inspired fashion. From Eleven's oversized denim jacket to Steve Harrington's iconic Scoops Ahoy uniform, the show's characters have become unlikely style icons, inspiring fans to embrace more vintage-inspired looks. With its blend of nostalgia and modern sensibility, "Stranger Things" has redefined the appeal of retro fashion for the newer generation.
Emily in Paris - "Emily in Paris" may be a newer addition to the TV landscape, but its impact on fashion has been swift. The show, which follows Emily Cooper, a young American woman navigating the world of Parisian couture, has become a runway of chic ensembles and statement-making accessories. From bold prints to romantic silhouettes, "Emily in Paris" has reinvigorated interest in French fashion and cemented its place as a must-watch for style enthusiasts.
The Crown - On the opposite end of the spectrum, "The Crown" offers a more understated yet equally influential approach to fashion. With its meticulous attention to detail and period-accurate costumes, the show has brought a lot of royal elegance to the forefront of contemporary style. From Queen Elizabeth's timeless dresses to Princess Margaret's avant-garde ensembles, "The Crown" celebrates the appeal of classic elegance and regal sophistication for time and time to come.
Conclusion
From the Upper East Side to the streets of Paris, television shows have long been a source of inspiration, shaping fashion trends and influencing our personal style choices. Whether it's the glamorous allure of "Gossip Girl" or the retro vibes of "Stranger Things," TV shows continue to leave their mark on the world of fashion, proving that when it comes to style, sometimes the smallest screen can have the biggest impact.

The Rise Of The Tachyon Dragon
May 12, 2024For the longest time Galaxy-Eyes has been known as an OTK deck. Appearing in the Zexal era, this deck has become synonymous with the season’s rival Kaito. Throughout the years, he has become the face of the deck with any new support being centered around his playing style. However, there is actually another Galaxy-Eyes who was forgotten for the longest time. One who offers a whole new way to play the deck.
Known as Mizar, he relied on his ace Number 107: Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon. This card had the powerful ability to negate all monster effects on the field every turn. To further support, Konami also created the cards known as Tachyon Transmigration, a card with the unique ability to negate multiple card effects at once, and Tachyon Spiral Galaxy, a card that made any dragon Galaxy monster immune to everything. What made these cards even better was the fact that if Number 107 was on the field, these cards could be played from the hand at any time. However, while these cards were powerful, they had the unfortunate downside that they couldn’t be searchable. Because of this it wasn’t possible to rely on using them.
With the new Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Primal though, this is no longer a problem. This monster allows its owner to search any tachyon spell/trap card including the two new ones introduced. What’s important to note is the Primal has the unique ability to be summoned to the opponent’s field, allowing you to bypass various negates that they might have. And for the times when you can’t summon Primal through its own effect, Tachyon Cloudragon allows you to bring it out from either the deck or graveyard.
Mizar used to have another lesser known ace called Number 46: Dragluon. While originally this card didn’t synergize with Galaxy-Eyes, its retrain Dragluxion offers support to the archetype and even helps bring together Kaito’s and Mizar’s playstyles. For one thing upon being summoned this card allows you to search any Galaxy or Tachyon card giving further consistency to the deck. Its other effect allows you to summon out any rank 8 dragon monster with 3000 ATK which helps to enable Number 107 with a powerful Tachyon card as support. This means that you now have the possibility to add in cards that you might have been unable to use before.
Finally, we have the two new Tachyon spell/traps. Tachyon Spiral of Destruction offers three different effects: the ability to destroy all negated face-up cards your opponent controls, adding any Tachyon card in the graveyard to your hand or summoning any Number dragon monster back from the graveyard. With it being a quick-play you have even better control of which effect to use at the right time. Lord of The Tachyon Galaxy is a card that is on the same level of power as the strong Tachyon Transmigration. This card shuffles any monster summoned during the turn back into the deck, essentially wiping the opponent's field. And should you have a Number C monster, it becomes impossible for the opponent to stop.
With these new cards it is possible to play Galaxy-Eyes in a way that people could only dream of. It no longer becomes a simple OTK deck and instead more of a control deck. So, when you’re building your deck, know that you have a choice between simply crushing your opponent or manipulating them in a way you choose.

Melodies that Move - Exploring the Movie Soundtracks in the 2000s
May 9, 2024A strong soundtrack could turn a fantastic film into an unforgettable experience. The 2000s saw the debut of several iconic movie soundtracks that not only enhanced visual storytelling but also left a lasting impact on popular culture. From the heartbreaking melodies of "The Notebook" to the high-octane beats of "The Fast and the Furious," these soundtracks became associated with the films they supported, lingering with fans long after the credits had rolled.
"The Notebook" (2004)
"The Notebook" is a film that wonderfully conveys the essence of romance, with a memorable soundtrack that inspires powerful emotions. Aaron Zigman composed the score, which is a delicate tapestry of piano compositions and orchestral arrangements that perfectly capture Noah and Allie's eternal love story. Tracks like "Main Title" and "On the Lake" pull at your emotions, making it impossible to separate the music from the film's lasting influence.
The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (2001-2003)
Howard Shore's soundtrack for Peter Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy was crucial to the film's phenomenal success. From the spiritual power of the elf regions to the thunderous war cries of Mordor, Shore's compositions transported spectators to Middle-earth's wondrous universe. Tracks like "The Fellowship Theme" and "Concerning Hobbits" remain imprinted in moviegoers' collective memories, providing a sound tribute to the imagination's enduring power.
"Kill Bill: Volume 1" (2003)
"Kill Bill: Volume 1", directed by Quentin Tarantino, is a thrilling tribute to a martial arts movie with a dramatic soundtrack. The soundtrack, which draws inspiration from a wide range of genres such as surf rock, funk, and traditional Japanese music, is a sonic rollercoaster that matches the film's fast pace. From Nancy Sinatra's sensuous delivery of "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" to Ennio Morricone's signature whistle in "Twisted Nerve," each soundtrack adds layers of complexity to the film's story.
"The Fast and Furious" (2001)
Few soundtracks better portray the adrenaline-fueled excitement of street racing than "The Fast and the Furious." The soundtrack, which includes hip-hop, rap, and electronic music, wonderfully suits the film's fast-paced action moments. Tracks like Ja Rule's "Furious" and Limp Bizkit's "Rollin' (Urban Assault Vehicle)" became anthems for a generation of younger thrill seekers, cementing the film's place as a cultural phenomenon.
The 2000s were a golden era for cinematic soundtracks, with each film creating a unique sounding identity that resonated with audiences around the world. From the tender melodies of "The Notebook" to the hyperbeats of "The Fast and the Furious," these soundtracks go above their respective films, leaving an indelible imprint on pop culture.

Gearing Up for Battle
May 9, 2024Giant robot battles. Every man’s- no, every human’s dream. I dream for the day that we are actually able to make this a reality. Until then I’ll just have to take solace in building models and watching robots battle in anime. Fortunately for me, there already exists an anime that showcases what a world like that might look like. And it just so happens to have expanded more on its world by creating a sequel.
Gundam Build Fighters Try is a continuation of its predecessor that takes place a few years after it. Instead of centering around just two characters, we actually follow a team of three highschoolers. Our main protagonist is Kamiki Sekai, a young martial artist who takes an interest in Gunpla, thanks to a member of the Gunpla Battle Club Hoshino Fumina. After helping to protect the club, he ends up acquiring a Gunpla left behind the previous series’s protagonist Lori Sei. With some convincing from Fumina, Sekai decides to work together with her and the young Gunpla builder Kousaka Yuuma to win a team competition to become known as the best Gunpla team.
Build Fighters Try builds off of what its predecessor left behind and even improves on it quite a bit. Now, they no longer have to worry about establishing a world, they are able to delve more into the concept of toys coming to life and what that entails. For example, normally something like creating a Power Rangers like mecha would be impractical and possibly considered stupid. However because this is a show that’s about creativity, they are able to run with this idea and create their own unique mech. Or they could create their own power-up system based on what they’ve seen in the shows.
While Build Fighters was great, I feel like it was restrained by the fact that they were still trying to figure out how to make the concept of toys coming to life work. However, it is because they figured it out that Try was able to shine. So, while I do recommend watching both in order, if you wanted to see what potential has to its fullest I would say you should watch.

The Everlasting PS4
May 7, 2024The PS5, the next step in console gaming. With its immersive controllers and amazing graphics, you truly feel like you’ve stepped into a new age. Of course, this is only what I’ve heard as I don’t have one myself. While I was always interested in it and still would like one, I just haven’t seen a good enough reason to get one. For me, the PS5 is basically what Apple does with its iPhones: give a slightly better model that doesn’t do much. And just like with iPhones, the main reason for its success is its hype.
That isn’t to say that the PS5 is pointless or anything. From what I’ve seen it is without a doubt an upgrade from the PS4. However, there just isn’t enough that sets them apart that makes me think I need one. One great thing that Sony did is have it, so that people could play their PS4 games on the PS5. Because of its cross-compatibility, people were more willing to buy a PS5 as they didn’t feel that they were losing out on anything. After all, being unable to play old games is a major turn off for some people. But, for good or for worse, Sony didn’t decide to stop there.
For most of the games they released on the PS5, they also decided to release a PS4 version. This meant that even if you still had a PS4 you could still buy new games. As of now, there are very few true PS5 exclusives with most that you can’t play on PS4 being available on PC. Due to this, there is no incentive to buy a PS5 unless said exclusives are what you’re after.
While the PS5 is indeed superior in terms of graphics and hardware, it isn’t enough that I would recommend buying one. If you really are interested in playing playstation games, then I would recommend buying the cheaper PS4. While it may be ‘weaker’, it still allows you to play a majority of the titles you would find on a PS5. So before buying one, consider if either the exclusives or hardware are deal breakers for you.

A Spiritual Invasion
May 5, 2024The journey of Kurosaki Ichigo continues now. Today, we are looking at the next chapter in his story as we enter Bleach’s Soul Society arc. A bit after Rukia was kidnapped, we find Ichigo recovering from his encounter with the Soul Reapers. With no way to get to where she is, and no way to use his powers now that his sword is broken, he struggles to figure out what to do. Enter Urahara Kisuke, a mysterious candy shop owner who has helped Ichigo and Rukia in the past. He tells Ichigo that he knows of a way to get to Rukia before she is scheduled to be executed. However, he also tells him that in his current state he would be incapable of saving her. So he agrees to train Ichigo so that he’ll be strong enough to save her.
From here, we spend a few days seeing Ichigo recover his strength as well as learn more about the powers that he possesses. This culminates in him acquiring a powerful technique unique to Soul Reapers known as Shikai. With his training complete, Ichigo and his friends who also acquired powers of their own join together in order to go to Soul Society and stop Rukia’s execution. And in turn make all of Soul Society their enemy.
Throughout the arc we learn more about the world of Soul Society and its role. Acting as Bleach’s version of heaven, this world is guarded by 13 squads each led by their own captain. In order to stop the execution, Ichigo and his friends must defeat them as they come to stop them. However, while they have gotten stronger, the captains they face are on another level. Not only do they possess their own Shikai, they also have an even stronger technique known as Bankai.
While Ichigo was able to become stronger through his battle in Soul Society, Yoruichi, a friend of Urahara who was sent to look after them, determines that he’s still not strong enough to save Rukia. So, she decides to train Ichigo so that he could obtain his own Bankai. And after the harsh training, he finally manages to stop the execution and save Rukia. We then have our final battle between Ichigo and Rukia’s brother Byakuya. And after a long and difficult battle between the two and their Bankais, Ichigo manages to just barely come out on top. Thus ends our second arc.
Soul Society is typically regarded as the best arc of Bleach by a lot of people. This is likely due to the fact that it builds up a lot of the world and answers a lot of questions that people have about it. From here though, we start to go into the less liked arcs. This is mostly due to them being regarded as filler to help make sure the anime didn’t catch up to the manga. Even so, there are a few arcs that I feel you’ll regret skipping out on. So until next time.

Netflix’s Avatar: Good or Mid?
May 5, 2024If you ever have time, then you need to watch the masterpiece that is Avatar: The Last Airbender. It is an amazing show that tells the story of a group of kids who are essentially forced to fight in a war in order to stop the evil reign of a nation. Although it has over 50 episodes, I can understand why people might be put off from watching it. Netflix must have thought the same when they decided to remake the show into shorter, condensed seasons (8 episodes). The only problem with this though… is that it is live action.
I’m sure there are plenty of ATLA fans who either remember or forced themselves to forget the travesty that was the M. Night Shyamalan adaptation. To put it simply, that movie was so bad that it threatened to ruin the legacy of ATLA. It was what Dragon Ball Evolution is to Dragon Ball. So when fans heard that they were planning on making another live action adaptation, people were rightfully worried especially with all the news of changes that they were making. And in the end what they gave us is… not bad?
Fans have agreed that this newest adaptation is without a doubt better than the movie (not a high bar). The problem is that they can’t seem to agree on whether the show is actually good or not. After all, when compared to something objectively bad, anything better is going to look amazing. So is this newest adaptation actually good or are people just blinded by the fact that it’s better than the movie?
If someone with no knowledge of ATLA beforehand were to watch it, they would likely say that it’s either decent or good. It tells a fun story and keeps your attention throughout. A fan of the original however, will likely have a few problems with it. For one thing, they get rid of a lot of Aang’s personality in the show. One of the interesting things about ATLA is that Aang never actually wanted to become the Avatar in the first place. He just wants to continue being a kid who plays around which is why at the beginning of the show he’s trying to put off his Avatar as much as possible to continue doing this. Throughout the show though, he slowly starts to come to terms with what he is and what he has to do.
Kyoshi Island is another example of the show suffering due to the adaptation. One of the changes the showrunners for the remake made was to tone down a major character’s (Sokka) sexism. According to them, they felt that it wasn’t progressive and didn’t reflect their own beliefs. The thing is, ATLA never glorified his sexism and in fact did whatever it could to show how wrong Sokka was. Multiple times the show does what it can to show that Sokka’s mindset is bad and that girls are capable of being much better than him. This culminates with the group arriving at Kyoshi Island and Sokka being humbled by a group of female warriors. Afterwards, he apologizes and even asks them to train him, finally realizing that it doesn’t matter whether you are a man or a woman.
In the remake, they turn what was an essential moment of character growth into your typical romance plot line. Rather than taking the time to destroy years of self-taught sexism, the show decides to focus on the fact that Sokka and one of the Kyoshi Warriors might be interested in each other. This highlights one of the remake’s flaws; being too afraid to give their characters flaws. As a result, they end up losing out on moments of potential growth.
This isn’t to say that the remake is bad. In the same episode of Kyoshi Island, they actually introduced a character known as Kyoshi early in a very amazing way that really showcases the kind of person she is. However, the show does a lot of things poorly, that makes me unable to call it good. Sure, it’s better than a movie. But is it enough?

From President to Otherworldly Bodyguard
May 3, 2024What would you do if you suddenly found yourself young again surrounded by animal people in the middle of a rebellion? Would you run away or choose to protect the kid put into the middle of it all? Well in this game, you figure that out yourself.
Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom tells the story of Evan, a young prince who is training to become king after the death of his father, and Roland, a president from another world who was brought here after an explosion. After a coup launched by the royal advisor, Evan and Roland flee the kingdom. Together the two decided to create a new nation where everyone can be happy and eventually take back Evan’s old kingdom.
Ni no Kuni 2 is a somewhat open-world RPG game. While players are able to explore the world as they please, they are ultimately required to complete quests to progress through the game making it more linear. As with most RPG titles, Ni no Kuni has its own form of combat. Combat takes place in real-time meaning that you must be constantly aware of what is happening or suffer the consequences. Battles are in third-person, three member teams with you being able to only control one member at a time. You are able to give instructions on how other members will act, but can’t control their exact actions.
What really makes this game unique is its nation building aspect. As you continue to grow your kingdom by completing quests and recruiting citizens, you also gain access to many facilities. For example, while you can buy equipment from other nations, you can instead develop your kingdom so that you can buy better quality equipment at lower costs. Choosing for yourself what facilities to develop when can greatly affect your gameplay experience.
Ni no Kuni 2 is a great blend of your typical RPG experience and a nation builder. With an engaging coming of age story as well, it’s sure to be an experience you’ll never forget. So pick your sword and get ready to build your own land of happiness.
